The map shows Belfast International airport and useful places in the area. The first thing to note is the car park locations. These are indicated by the two blue cars numbered 1 and 2. 1. is Cosmo Parking and 2. is the long stay car park. There is also a short stay car park, which is nearest to the airport and not shown on the map as it is just for drop off’s and pick ups and therefore not suitable for travellers only taxis and friends and relatives of travellers. There are also two hotels shown on the map. These are the closest hotels to the airport and they are marked with the red hotel keys. Number 1 is the Hilton Templepatrick and Number 2 the Park Plaza. It is worth checking prices for both the hotels and the parking before you go, as you may benefit from a discount if you book online in advance.
The map obviously also shows the route to get to the airport by car. The airport is just 18 miles from the city of Belfast and you take the M2 northbound, then the A57 from Junction 5. It should be signposted clearly but it might be wise to use an online route planner or satellite navigation system if you are not good with directions. If you have no car then you should easily be able to organise a taxi to get you to the airport. If you are concerned about getting there you could hire a car and then leave it at the airport.

Northern Ireland is a wonderful place to visit and Belfast truly epitomises this, with so many beautiful things to see and do. However, Northern Ireland has one large disadvantage; it is an island nation and, as such, it is practically impossible to bring your car over with you when you come. Whilst a few take the ferry over, the vast majority fly – the easiest option as it’s more convenient and easy to do. However, this gives you quite a few problems; whilst Belfast is a small enough place and it is possible to walk everywhere, I can guarantee that you’ll get fed up if you don’t have a car; it just makes everything so much easier. You no longer have to tire yourself out by just getting to the places to see and so can fully appreciate it when you get there.
Why on earth would you choose not to hire a car when it’s now the easiest thing in the world to do? You can book it online before you even set off and then only wait a short time before you’re driving to the hotel in comfort. The cost shouldn’t be an issue because, contrary to what people often think it is relatively cheap and can even rival the cost of using public transport. It’s an easy choice really; would you rather rely on British public transport or on your own ability to read a map? Hiring a car allows you to reach even the most secluded locations within Belfast – areas that are just inaccessible without a car, and you can only really appreciate the city if you can see as much as possible; for that you almost certainly need to hire a car.
